Pastor Marianne Niesen was born and raised in the Chicago area. She earned her undergraduate degree in Religious Studies and Secondary Education from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota. After teaching high school for several years, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Rochester, MN, and subsequently served for 18 years in various capacities as a nun. Her spiritual quest eventually led her to leave her Franciscan order and seek ordination in the United Methodist Church. She attended the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA, attaining her Masters of Divinity in 1991. She is an ordained member of the Yellowstone Conference (now the Mountain Sky Conference) of the United Methodist Church. She served first as pastor of the Three Forks and Willow Creek Churches in Montana. In 1994, she was appointed to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Helena, Montana and served there for 23 years, retiring as Senior Pastor in June, 2017.
During the course of her ministry, she and her husband, Lyle, have led over 20 pilgrimages to the Holy Land. They moved to Florida in August, 2017 to be closer to family.
