Good morning fellow believers, As you know, I had a tough bout with covid and dental surgery. WOW!!!! It was a rough ride! Anyway, here is our profound thought to ponder: “Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they are there.” (anon.) I don't think I've ever heard such a timely thought. Jo Anne's introducing us to "Star Words" last year and this year has much meaning for me. I loved the way she combined her star word from last year and this year in her sermon. It was then I realized how my star words, "family" and "refuge", had a deeper meaning that I thought. You must understand that all of you, my "family," were my "refuge" during my trying times (and all the time). Though I cannot see you all the time, I feel your prayers and your supplications on my behalf, and I know you are there for me. God bless you! With a song in my heart, Rick

A meditation courtesy of our music director Rick Roberts.9/21/2023 Good morning, all. Have you ever had a negative thought? If you said "no", you are a saint (or a fibber). Negativity has sometimes crept into my thoughts. It's not good. It saps the energy of all that's good. Worse yet, negative thoughts become verbal thoughts and that's harmful to listeners and to yourself. I try to avoid negativity but, I confess, it still creeps in now and then. With that said, here is the quote of the week that's worth sharing: "I don't harp on the negative because if you do, then there's no progression. There's no forward movement. You got to always look on the bright side of things, and we are in control. Like, you have control over the choices you make." (Taraji P. Henson) God, too, is in control and can help you overcome negativity. Prayer is our lifeline. Pray often. Have a blessed day. With a song in my heart, Rick
That's the one and only thing I've been able to find out about Lyman Woodard, whoever he was, but it is enough. I love him for doing what he did. It was a crazy thing to do. It was a risky thing to do. It ran counter to all standards of New England practicality and prudence. It stood the whole idea that you're supposed to be nothing but solemn in church on its head just like Lyman himself standing upside down on his. And it was also a magical and magnificent and Mozartian thing to do. If the Lord is indeed our shepard (Psalm 23), then everything goes topsy-turvy. Losing becomes finding and crying becomes laughter. The least becomes first and the weak become strong. Instead of life being 'done in' by death in the end as we always supposed, death is 'done in' finally by life in the end. If the Lord is our host at the great feast, then the sky is the limit."

(and on Zoom) This Sunday we will hear five or six very different and inspiring faith stories that describe unique “inward journeys.” We will learn what strengthened people’s faith and maybe about things that got in the way. In the process we hope to gain insights about strategies and tools that we can use for our own faith journeys. Margaret Spontak will lead the discussion, encouraging us to share touchdown or defining moments that we may have encountered in our journeys. We all have unique ways of striving to live according to the life and values of Jesus. Margaret will explore what author Elizabeth O’Connor meant when she discussed the “inward journey” in her book Journey Inward, Journey Outward. Elizabeth O’Connor describes three parts of the inward journey. O’Connor shares, “The new forms of Church will be shaped by the need of every person to become the person he or she can become.” We will each take home a simple worksheet to identify potential tools or disciplines that could help us maintain and build our faith. Please join us for coffee (and on Zoom) at 8:45 and class will begin at 9:00. Meeting ID: 868 1436 2290
