Today marks the 78th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion.  Which Presbyterian US President would later state; “I hate war, only as a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity”

As the largest invasion force in history against Nazi Germany, the D-Day invasion combined effort brought sea, land & air components to the forefront of the efforts to secure Europe from tyranny.

Did you know that President Dwight David Eisenhower
was horrified by the sheer depravity of combat, stating,

“I hate war, only as a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity”
(Presbyterian Life, May 1, 1969).

Dwight David Eisenhower, was a five-star general, supreme commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II, and he became the 34th President of the United States from 1953 to 1961.

While initially religiously unaffiliated, Eisenhower became a devout Presbyterian upon ascending to the presidency.  Having experienced first-hand the horrors of war, his religious faith coincided with his increasingly pacifist leanings.
