As music minister, Adams leads the adult choir, helps prepare soloists, and plays the piano or organ for Sunday services. She’s also the vocal music director at North Marion Middle School. She holds a summa cum laude degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia in piano and voice and attended the Eastman School of Music. She also has studied music application and computer technology at the University of Florida.
“Music is my life, from morning to night of each and every day — absolutely. I am a keyboardist. My best work is on piano. I enjoy the instruments, particularly the instruments at the church.
“I love dealing with Fort King Presbyterian. It’s a small enough congregation that it feels like family.
“The choir has been a growing, changing group…We go to two services. The choir sings at the second service and certain soloists at the first service during the regular season, from September to June.
“There are quite a few hours of practice, preparing a prelude or an offertory, communion music and the incidental music at each service. We are using a new edition of The Presbyterian Hymnal.
“I believe I like working with the choir best. It is just a splendid group of people. As we prepare the major works, we might take it to a retirement home and sing, especially at Christmas time.
“I had the compulsion to play by the time I was in my late threes or early fours. At age 4 I was playing melodies. I have played the piano all my life. I was giving recitals at age 6 or 7. I took (lessons) on and off probably about eight years. I play by ear and read music.
